what was it about?

Every year there is a international gatheeing from countries accros the world as well as scientist, activits, indiginous communities and passionate every day peopleto wok together to come up with a legelly binding agreement on climate change.

COP30 in Belém, Brazil, was the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (Nov 10-21), a major summit hosted near the Amazon focusing on accelerating climate action, strengthening the Paris Agreement, finance, and the "Nature COP" theme, uniting leaders, scientists, and activists to tackle the climate crisis with goals like keeping 1.5°C alive, but faced challenges in securing fossil fuel commitments despite key initiatives like the Tropical Forests Forever Facility.}

My personal story- day of Solidarity Birmingham cardboard cop 2025

I have participated in local Birmingham cop for last 5 years, i really wanted to support Birmingham cardboard cop30, organised by friction arts which is a local youth arts charity based in highgate, there was a strong focus on young people.

15th November 2025, is the day of climate action solidarity across the world, having a day in Birmingham, which is one of the most diverse cities in the country felt important. The local art group and Woodcraft folk. The day started at 10am. I was greeted with a warm welcome, a tea and some lovely biscuits, there was excitement in the room, volunteers getting things ready such as the projector to link with Cop30 Brazil and speak to someone on video link who was there. I love art and is was so interesting to see how recycled cardboard was used to make animals including a ginat spider. There was other activities upstairs such as the XR drummers who came to teach drumming, there was even puppet making. I spoke to people who came some with their children.

It was time for the rally to St Philips cathedreal we got out, look some photos and where led by the XR Drummers, local people walking by waived at us and smiled as you danced across the streets, it took us a hour due to the rush of the shopping, i really enjoyed it,. As a Muslim, i felt really humbled to be part of this action, with others of other faiths and no faith, it was humanity at its best.

Finally we had arrived and it was time for speeches, a young climate activist who was one of the youth climate srikers a few years ago spoke very passionately about our future and how we all needed to work together and support the youth and teach the future which was a youth led campaign to have climate change taught in every school.

Why is amazon important to tackle climate change

The Amazon rainforest is vital for tackling climate change because it's the world's largest land Carbon sink absorbing massive amounts of CO2, regulating global rainfall, and stabilizing temperatures; protecting it prevents catastrophic carbon release and biodiversity loss, while deforestation exacerbates warming, pushing the ecosystem towards a dangerous tipping point where it could turn into a dry savannah.

The islamic world came together to work to publish Al-Mizan.

Al-Mizan - A Covenant for the Earth is a restatement of the principles governing the protection of nature in a form that meets current challenges. It examines the ethics behind the social patterning of human existence and enquires into how they could be brought to life today working in harmony with the heartbeat of the natural world. This demonstrates the vital work Muslim academics and activists and scientists are doing to look at the principles of Islamic teachings to preserving nature, its a great resource for all to read and learn from.

For me its the coming together of local people who care about the Envirornment, it was really important to show solidarity visually and the rally highlighted this with all the art work, the cool headdress, the drummers definitely helped as it bought attention, especially when we reached the Birmingham markets, shoppers took photos and some say hi and others wanted to find out more. Bringing community together is not just about one day, hard work happens every day and behind the scenes, it was really talk about what next, frction arts offered their space to be used for climate cafe discussions and making sure people are able to stay in touch. I am part of the whatsapp group and it useful and it helps to know what elce is happening in Birmingham to get involved in.
